In just a few weeks we will be halfway through the second decade of the century, as the calendar turns to 2015. The year may appear rather uneventful, based on several factors.
First, the United States is still another year away from a presidential campaign, or even any midterm elections. Also, the new year does not hold many potential centennial celebrations.
Most of the noteworthy events from 1915 are tragedies, such as the sinking of the Lusitania. That year also witnessed the first use of poison gas, as the First World War continued to escalate.
There will be a few 100 year anniversaries of note, however, especially for Cornell University. The Big Red went undefeated in 1915, thereby being named the NCAA football champions.
For those of us who have no connection with Cornell, we can still find much to celebrate in the new year. Those celebrations will be even more special, given the number of new albums set to be released in 2015.
Here are ten artists with new discs to appear at some point in the next 365 days.
Belle and Sebastian: Girls in Peacetime Want to Dance
The indie rock group's new album will be released in January. It is the follow up to Write About Love, which came out way back in 2010.
My Morning Jacket: Title To Be Announced
In April, Jim James and his Louisville band will release their follow up to 2011's Circuital.
Red Hot Chili Peppers: Title To Be Determined
This veteran rock band, who has had a devout following as well as its share of commercial success since the 1990s, has announced a fall date for its first studio album since 2011.
The Decembrists: What a Terrible World, What a Beautiful World
The follow up to 2011's commercially-successful The King Is Dead is just a few weeks away, as the band announced January 20 as its release date.
Guster: Title To Be Determined
The indie pop band's follow up to Easy Wonderful is set for a January 13 release, which will mark its first studio album since 2010.
Plain White T's: American Nights
The pop group's follow up to 2010's Wonders of the Younger does not yet have a specific release date, but it will be highly anticipated.
Gotye: Title To Be Determined
After topping the charts with "Somebody That I Used To Know" from Making Mirrors in 2011, Wally de Backer is finally going to release his much-anticipated follow up.
Frank Turner: Title To Be Determined
The British singer-songwriter's follow up to 2013's Tape Deck Heart is set for a February release.
Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds: Chasing Yesterday
The former songwriter for Oasis, whose new band released its self-titled debut in 2011, has already issued the new album's first single, titled "The Heat of the Moment." The rest of the album will arrive on March 2.
Death Cab for Cutie: Title To Be Determined
Co-founder Chris Walla left the group last year, so the follow up to 2011's Codes and Keys will be the band's first album without his contributions.
